The Land

The production area of Brunello di Montalcino lies within the splendid Val d’Orcia and includes the municipality of Montalcino, in the province of Siena. Bounded by the valleys of three rivers — Orcia, Asso, and Ombrone — it is precisely located in southeastern Tuscany, about 40 kilometers south of the city of Siena.

The Origins

The origins of Brunello di Montalcino date back to the second half of the 19th century, when a local pharmacist, Clemente Santi, selected and began vinifying pure Sangiovese, traditionally known in Montalcino as “Brunello.” This wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes grown in the Montalcino area. All processes — vinification, storage, aging in wood, bottle aging, and final bottling — must take place within this same production area.

A patient wine

runello di Montalcino requires a very long aging process before release — the longest of all Italian wines. Production regulations state that it can be released on January 1st of the fifth year following the harvest. During this period, the wine must spend at least 2 years in oak barrels and at least 4 months aging in the bottle. Thanks to its characteristics, Brunello di Montalcino can withstand long aging, improving over time.

Unique Labels

Our bottles are completed with truly one-of-a-kind labels, each one hand-drawn and painted individually, with colors and atmospheres inspired by the stunning valleys and unspoiled nature of Montalcino and its surroundings.
